According to the two-tiered nomenclature recommended by the Lower Anogenital Squamous Terminology (LAST) Standardization Project, non-invasive HPV-associated squamous lesions are classified as either low-grade or high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL vs HSIL). Within the current, pre-renewal NCSP, the HPV status of women with low-grade squamous abnormalities is not always available and recommendations are based on the assumption that it is unknown. Under the upcoming renewed NCSP based on primary HPV screening, clinical decisions will be informed by both a known HPV status as well as cytology.  This presentation will review the implications of this and the recommendations for management of histologically proven low grade lesions under the renewed NCSP.
