We all know that nurses are integral to the success of the cervical screening program in Australia, but who are these nurses and what do they do?
Nurses can be the first contact for many women taking part in cervical screening examination, they can empower and educate women in the benefits of HPV vaccination and cervical screening, they can reassure the nervous, the underscreened or the fully informed. When trained to do so nurses can undertake cervical sampling, and assist with results and recall processing at each step along the pathway a friendly nurse can be an essential tool for GPs and consumers alike.
