HPV related oropharyngeal cancer is one of the most rapidly increasing cancer types known. The patient demographics and presentation of oropharyngeal cancer have changed dramatically over the last ten years. The prognosis of patients with HPV related oropharyngeal cancer is superior to smoking related tumours. These factors have lead to treatment paradigm shifts towards de-intensification and new modalities such as transoral robotic surgery (TORS).

Professor Clark holds consultant positions in Head and Neck Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred hospital and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse where he directs the international fellowship program. He leads the clinical research program at the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute with over 150 peer review publications, particularly in the fields of metastatic skin cancer, facial reconstruction, patient education and oral cancer. Professor Clark’s clinical focus is on surgery for advanced skin cancer, facial reconstruction for cancer, robotic surgery for oropharyngeal cancer, and salivary gland tumours. He has a particular expertise in Head and Neck microvascular reconstruction and has trained numerous international surgeons in these areas since commencing work at Royal Prince Alfred in 2006.
