Carbon dioxide laser vaporisation should be considered as first-line in the treatment of Giant Condyloma Acuminatum (Buschke-lowenstein tumour) (3543)
Giant Condylomata Acuminatum (GCA) or Buschke-Lowenstein Tumour is a tumour of the genital and perianal skin that is associated with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) types 6 and 11. It is grossly unpleasant but fortunately rare. No single treatment has been established as first line for GCA due to its high rate of recurrence. We discuss three patients who were treated with carbon dioxide laser vaporisation therapy (CO2 laser) to good effect. We will discuss the challenges encountered. We suggest that CO2 laser should be considered as a first-line treatment in selected cases of GCA without malignant transformation.
