Quality Assurance in Colposcopy in US (3534)
The American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) has been engaged in an effort to establish standards for the practice of colposcopy in the United States. There are no current standards, and this organized effort is the first of its kind. In addition to addressing terminology, risks/benefits, risk-based colposcopy, and colposcopy adjuncts, ASCCP is also addressing quality control and quality assurance. Although quality assurance mechanisms already exist in many other countries, basic standards do not exist in the US and as such, there are no published basic expectations. This presentation will broadly discuss the colposcopy standards effort and focus on one of the workgroups which is responsible for addressing quality assurance.
