This topic will cover the recommended consensus statements and presented flow charts that can direct management when discordancy occurs – primarily when there are normal colposcopic findings in the presence of high risk HPV subtypes and abnormal cytology.
The importance of expert cytopathological review in these situations along with careful attention to exclude other sites of genital tract dysplasia is discussed. It is paramount to appropriately review all aspects of the assessment of abnormal results if there are significant discrepancies in order to decide the most appropriate management options available,.The aim of managing cervical dysplasia is the prevention of cervical cancer, thereby maximizing perceived benefits whilst minimizing harm, avoiding unnecessary interventions/treatments whilst maximizing long term outcomes.
